Friday Folder Time! (Oct 27)

Hello Eagles,

It feels like the school year just started yesterday, but the end of the first trimester is in sight! October was another event filled month for us, and we are closing things out with the Halloween Spooktacular last night, and a week of free dress next week! Speaking of which, November is a special time of year where we celebrate the season of giving and gratitude at Evergreen! We start with our traditional food drive and candy buy back drives, and our children will be focusing on this month's theme of leading with gratitude every day.

If you ordered Pictures from Picture Day, they should have arrived in your Folders this week! Digital pictures were delivered as early as last week for those of you who ordered before now, and if you didn't order pictures, you should see the proofs and ordering information. In addition to the individual photo, you will also find class photo and the SmileSafe ID card. This marks my annual tradition of swapping the old card for the new one in my wallet. We should hear more details soon about scheduling for picture retake day on November 16th if you would like that.

In this week's folder, you will find the November calendar of events, and one of the first things that stuck out to me is that we have something pretty much every day, but don't worry, most of these events are things our children will be doing in school!

If you are worried about gaining too much weight this holiday season, good luck! We might not be able to solve all your issues, but we can at least help get some of that candy out of the house! Our annual Candy Buy Back event is running from November 1st - 13th. Dr Ilona Furman, an Evergreen parent and owner of All Smiles Family Dentistry has generously agreed to donate $2 for every pound donated to a charity chosen by the Evergreen 5th Grade class! The candy will be given to the Seattle Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, so nothing will go to waste! The classroom with the most poundage will win a free Pizza Party! See the flyer for details!

Like most schools this time of year, Evergreen also has a Food & Non-perishable items drive this month from November 1st - 16th. Items will be delivered to the Families Helping Families Food Pantry by the 5th Grade Class! Please donate Dry Goods, Canned Food, Personal Items, or Cleaning Products to the Evergreen Front Office. Please remember not to donate any opened or expired products. For ideas of what kinds of items to donate, see the flyer below!

Did I mention the Season of Gratitude and Giving yet? Not only is this a primary theme we are celebrating this November, but we use that as a title for a group of events that run from now until winter break in December. You already heard about the first two events in this series, and you will see more information in the flier sent home today!

We have an upcoming assembly on Monday November 13th to celebrate Veteran's Day! We are compiling a slide show of veteran photos (from any military, not just US.) You and your loved ones are are invited to join us at the assembly to honor their service!

Next, we have the Winter Musical! This annual event will be held at the Kirkland Performing Arts Center on Wednesday December 6th. All students are practicing very hard for this event, and it is truly a joy for all! Save the date, and we look forward to seeing you all!
